EASTERN MARKET

Last weekend R and I headed to the Eastern Market in southeast DC (7th and North Carolina). If you haven't checked it out, you need to. There is a parking lot filled with everything from bicycles to furniture, paintings to antique dishes. You can find some great bargains; I was thinking about doing my Christmas shopping there. I guess they close sometime in December because it is mainly outside. One artist that caught my attention was Amy Marx (www.amymarx.com/jewelry). She makes jewelry from recycled seaglass. Her stuff is affordable and perfect for the girls in my family. Next to the lot, there is a building with meats, fish, flowers and a cafe. It looked very fresh. Then, my favorite part is behind the building. We grabbed a passion fruit sorbet and talked with local artists. There were plenty of locally grown veges and fruit (samples of each). The prices were much more reasonable than the Giant I have been frequenting.
